Grandma was prescribed Xarelto after being off Coumadin for a year and then getting blood clots in her legs. While it's nice not having to take her to the lab every week or so for tests, the price of the Xarelto is a lot ($184 for a 30 day supply).
The pharmacy keeps telling us we can go online to get a coupon, but I can't find anything that works. I don't know what they're talking about and I even told them that. Those coupons (including GoodRx) actually make the cost higher at over $300. They don't work with insurance and her insurance is covering the bulk of the cost.
Am I missing something here? Is there a way to get it for less? I did check the manufacturers website a while back and Grandma doesn't qualify for any of their special financial assistance programs. She doesn't seem to qualify for anything. She can cover the cost, the issue is just that it's a lot of money for a blood thinner, especially when Coumadin/Warfarin is dirt cheap. If the pharmacy would shut up about the cost everytime I picked it up, I wouldn't be so bothered by it. Personally, I think it's in poor taste for a pharmacy to have any sort of negative reaction (a gasp, comments, etc.) when someone has to pay for an expensive medication on a regular basis. To me, their reaction is the equivalent of rubbing salt in the wound. Yes, I know it's expensive, no need to keep pointing it out.

Gotta fax em a prescription. Shipping $9.95. Near as I can tell no generic currently available. I did this for Aricept when it first came out, no generic, saved lotsa money.
I think it was about $90/qtr for 3 qtrs than $500 the 4th qtr. So it cost $770/year and I saved $1230/year.
