She's 90, has all her faculties, has some issues with balance and vision yet has asked me to find a place. We have gone to La Mesa Senior Center together for Bingo. Is there a place where they have, as she says a "daycare for seniors," to gather that just need limited assistance?

Find Care & Housing
We go to a local senior center where they have talks, parties and chair yoga for example as well as pizza and bingo. Perhaps you have something similar nearby.

We attend Adult Day Care 1/2 day that serves meals, the hall is decorated, lively music, and various activities including bingo...the music and dancing are especially uplifting for my husband.... we pay monthly fee but many participants have MediCal... The eldest participant is 98 years young!

keep searching in your area - be sure to visit a few...some we looked at were dull- lacking vitality without any stimulation...

I just googled "La Mesa, CA Adult Day Care Health Centers" and about ten centers popped up. One with a 5* rating is https://innovativecenter.org. My husband attended an Adult Day Care Health Center for about eight months before he moved to a Memory Care facility. It was wonderful. There were seniors with varied disabilities ranging from wheelchair bound to people with dementia. They focused on individual needs.

You need to inquire in your city or county.
We do not know where you live.
Contact your county's senior services department.
And/or ask your mom's social worker or anyone associated with her healthcare for referrals.

That she has issues with vision and vision means that she will need to be 'watched,' / escorted everywhere, every step.

You need to either look / research on the internet (in your county) or start with your county "City Hall" or government agency.

A young(er) person will know how to research if you do not. Ask a kid in high school ... or perhaps call a university and ask for a volunteer in their social work or geriatric programs (B.S. or Masters' programs).

Ask at the Senior Center if there is an Adult Day Program.
I am sure they refer people to Day Programs all the time.
Also check with the Park District and the Library.
The library may need Volunteers to read to kids during the Summer and maybe even help with other projects. If she would like to do that sort of thing.

Depending on your geographic area the resources will vary. A good and safe place to start for referrals is always with her Physician since they know her overall status .

Senior Centers, Community Centers, Libraries, Park Districts, Museums, Historical Society, Visitors Bureau, the Symphony Orchestra. I work at an AAA and I made a list of places with their phone numbers for people to call if they are lonely and looking for socialization. It's a pretty popular list!

A lot of churches in your area have senior events or senior daycare. Also check out the senior community centers.

So glad she is willing to socialize and enhance her quality of life.

Contact your Area Office on Aging. They should have info about local resources and activities for seniors.

Try the Assisted Livings in the area. Sometimes, for a small fee, they will let outsiders come in and enjoy the activities.

Great suggestion, JoAnn

I attended a caregiver group that was held at an assisted living facility. It was wonderful. A social worker led the group.

They have wonderful activities for seniors at assisted living facilities.

My husband is currently in a memory facility in Rancho Bernardo but prior to placing him I found Poway Adult Day Health Care Center. Look them up on the web. They are open Monday through Friday with shorter hours on Fridays.

There are senior centers in certain areas. They aren’t always an entire day but they some have great activities.

It’s not just bingo! You will find, painting, Bridge, chair yoga, field trips, dancing and exercise. My 100 year old cousin has been going for years!
