Glen Campbell won his sixth Grammy in 2014, proving that the human spirit is more powerful than any kind of medical diagnosis.
“I'm Not Gonna Miss You,” co-written by Campbell and Julian Raymond, won the award for Best Country Song. The music video is a touching tribute to Campbell's greatest love: his family.
Diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2011, Campbell was in the later stages of the disease and could not attend the Grammys in person to receive the award. Accepting the golden gramophone for the ailing artist was his wife, Kim, who said:
“It's been an amazing journey; he's been so courageous in bringing awareness to Alzheimer's and caregiving… Music, I really believe, kept him healthy for a longer period of time and enabled him to enjoy life while living with a debilitating brain disease.”
“I'm Not Gonna Miss You” also received an Oscar nomination for best original song and was performed by country legend Tim McGraw at the 87th Academy Awards ceremony on February 22, 2015.
Glen Campbell passed away from Alzheimer's disease on August 8, 2017, in Nashville, TN. He was 81 years old.
