A few years ago my daughter was going to be out of the country for an extended period of time and would not be able to see her grandma on her 85th birthday. She printed out a nice card and sent it to her grandma's family and friends asking if on her grandma's birthday they would send her a card or note. Her grandma looooves mail. Grandma got so many lovely and funny birthday wishes (flowers too!) over the course of a month. On her birthday I gave her a copy of the card my daughter had sent. It was a wonderful gift to give and to receive.
