I thought these statistics were very interesting. If we consider that the 85+ group are the people who generally need the most care, it shows the numbers are really not so hopeless. I found the breakdown of who the people 65+ lived with was very interesting. It shows the effect of widowhood and divorce on women living alone. I think about how women often marry men 5-20 years older than themselves. I noticed that more men tend to live with spouses and fewer with other family members. Other family members seem to take up the slack when it comes to the women.
We need to find a way to put those unpaired men and women together so they can take care of each other. Wouldn't that be romantic?
