We got two new kitties in October. They are now 6 mths. old. Holy terrors, the two of them. I've gotten used to elderly cats. It's been an adjustment learning to care for kittens again. My old knees and hips are protesting. LOL But, they are fun to watch. You don't need a t.v. when you have kittens running you ragged.

Lu, so good and kind of you to care for all those kitties. Too bad there wasn't an organization that could financially supplement people like you who care for strays, etc. Maybe there is? Have you looked into that? I know the SPCA here in Canada will help people who adopt elderly cats. But I guess that's something different. Anyway, good for you for caring enough to try.

Pamzimmrrt~
Bless you too.
I think that every cat deserves love and to be cared for.
They get along. It's just the expense of the food.
Catfood that used to be 57 cents a can is now 88 cents a can.
The kitten in our garage is beautiful. It's a Siamese Himalyan ,I named "Kit".He's been here over a year now and I'd love to let him inside, but I can't with my 3 precious girls,"Toots,Trouble, and Lovee".
They'll be 9 years old in February and they're the light of my life.
They came right after I lost my Mother and gave me a new purpose.
They're the reason I get out of bed every morning.
I love them so much.
3 of the strays that come are really the neighbor's cats and I think they're just taking advantage of me.3 big gold one's were dumped ,I'm sure.
I named them all because I have to call them something.
I was always a dog person until the litter of the kittens came almost 9 years ago,
Now,I just love the cats but I'd still like to have a dog too.
It's just alot~

Lucky bless you for taking care of them! can you call a trap and nuture agency to help you out before you have even more? we started with one stray and in about a year had 20! A TNR really saved us there. and about 3 weeks ago a 3 mo old kitten showed up in our garage. Luckily she already TNR'ed and is living well in the laundry room at this point. So now we have our very own Feral Colony.. Luckily we live on several acres in the country, and we buy cat food bulk at Sams. But your right it is not cheap!

cw - I know farm pets are dealt with very differently from non farm pets.

lu - could you call your local rescue outfit to come and get the strays? The poor things are fortunate to have you care for them, but it must be expensive.

I'd love to get a dog for my husband for Christmas but our house is loaded with cats and Iv'e become an old cat lady now.
I have my 3 inside cats and a kitten in the garage and 7 strays that just showed up ,so I'm feeding 11.
It's getting too expensive but idk how to get rid of the strays.
I think some were dumped at our house and the people drove off.
It's not the cats fault and I feel sorry for them.
It's created quite a situation~

That's another reason I don't want a pet, I'd be much too conflicted if/when they ever have a health problem. I was recently at a friend's house and they mentioned the over $1K cost to have kitty's teeth removed, plus she's now on meds so that will be a continuing cost and stress to administer. I grew up with farm cats and of course we loved them, but their lives were short and there were always more kittens. And the dogs... the only time I remember our beloved collie getting vet attention was when he needed stitches, even my brother's show dog was mostly doctored farmer style.

We worry about our fur babies so much.

My son and his gal acquired a kitty a few months ago. Turns out he has epilepsy, anemia, an MRI shows some brain irregularities and is stone deaf as well. He and they have been through the wringer with all of this. It is costing them an arm and a leg, but he is a very affectionate and lively kitty. We met him for the first time yesterday. He is on meds for his issues and the seizures have settled down. We hope they can get rid of the anemia. They haven't yet identified the cause.

Nonetheless he obviously enjoys life and purrs up a storm when cuddled, and has captured their hearts. Mine too!

My daughter brings her cat over for play dates, but she is not the type to play with other cats much . She mostly just runs up to my daughter’s old room or hangs out on the window seat in the kitchen in the sun . My cat just follows her around .

My husband keeps saying we are going to end up getting a kitten . I already have her name picked out if we do .

Way, perhaps there's another kitty or dog in your neighborhood to have kitty "play dates" with? We had a very social kitty at one time who went visiting all by himself - other cats, other neighbors,... he'd have been a good candidate for a playmate. Maybe there's one in your neighborhood.

My daughter moved back to our area and had moved back home with us temporarily , until she found her own place.
She has a cat and I have a cat . After my daughter moved out and took her cat with her , my cat got seperation anxiety. She was overgrooming , leaving her belly and legs nearly bald . We are trying Prozac of all things . Vet reccommends us getting a kitten if the Prozac doesn’t work . 🙄😬😂
We also have those Feramone diffusers in the outlets and spray for her beds .
Belly fur seems to be coming back in . 🤞🏻
Any other suggestions ?
We really aren’t wanting the expense of a second cat , even though we would love a kitten again .

No new pets in my life, but Nephew #1's family were looking after a kitten while the pet parents were away and I hear it was a big hit with the kids. But kitty wanted to play all night which left great nephew frustrated, and he mentioned it even followed him into the bathroom😲! (lol)

I have a cat that automatically runs upstairs, to the warmest room in the house, when the AC is on. I feel this is pretty typical. I have another cat that , runs the minute the window AC comes on, sits on the back of the couch, right in front of it for hours. This just doesn't seem like a normal cat behavior.

Pam, I love Chihuahuas, they are not the most well like dogs, but to me they are adorable. A week with an older Chihuahua is definitely enough though.

Hope things with your hubs is going well. 🫂🫂

My DD and GS are on vacation so we are babysitting her 4 lb chihuahua, elderly, mostly deaf and bad eyesight. We were laughing today about how our week has been full of comments like "No don't pee there" and "hold on till I clean your butt" ( or grab the "hanger") She goes into her doggy condo at night, and in the morning at least I can just clean out the pee pads..LOL She is also a picky eater, which is funny because at her home she gets one type of food, and some nibbles of people food. We try all sorts of meat and treats, what she will eat today she will not eat tomorrow! We were laughing because this sounds sooo familiar to many of us here, and not with our dogs!! No disrespect intended.

Re litter travelling, Rocky has hair tufts in her feet (the maine coon genes) so she tracks litter, I'm thinking of trimming them if she will let me. Meanwhile I have a rubbery kitty litter mat from Amazon in front of one box then a long cheap carpet runner to the door and then one in the hall. That confines it there though she doesn't use that box much. The one she uses mostly is in my bathroom. I put an old towel in front of it which I will likely replace with a small thick bath mat, then there is a thick bath mat and then another runner in my walk through closet. I shake them out and wash the runners and the bath mat as needed. It works pretty well to keep litter from the rest of the condo.

I am sure cats are different in how much they miss their people/friends. Any cat I had never seemed to be affected by the kids moving out of the house, Toonie's reaction to us losing my youngest son was extraordinary,

Way - Poor kitty! Hope she gets better soon.

Waytomisery, how's the kitty situation? I wanted to tell you , I have one cat that's attached to me, hubby has one that's attached to him. The first night hubs was in the hospital, his cat wouldnt leave my side, slept with me and everything, she acted really sad, the second night, she seemed to care less. Maybe some cats get over things quicker.

Drivingdaisy,

I only have wall to wall carpet on the stairs and the family room . DH wanted to keep carpet , not me . So I got carpet to match the cat litter . Lol. Although not much ends up in that room . But she does drag it on the stairs . I got rid of all the carpet upstairs .

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. 97yroldmom,
Oh boy . Speaking of litter , my cat is the messiest . DH says she drags it out by the pound . I have a dedicated litter vacuum nearby at all times .

The best part is the litter box is in DH’s home office .Lol. 😂😂😂. She does attend some work meetings with DH .

I am a neat and clean freak , between the litter and the shedding, I’m good with one cat. My cat is very chill , the other cat is the dominant one . That being said I think my cat will miss the other one . She will only be home alone all day one day a week . Not so bad .

Alittle background . 7 years ago daughter came home after college graduation and wanted a kitten . I had to talk DH into it . So my daughter gets a kitten without having any of the supplies . She drops off the kitten at home and goes back out for food etc . Within 1/2 an hour , this tiny kitten was sitting on DH’s knee .This is the same cat that is moving out again. They lived with us for 2 years . It was Covid. When daughter left with her cat , we lasted about 6 weeks and got our own kitten . I don’t want to cave in again and get another kitten .
