My mother is bedridden and has lived with me since 2020 when she first became too weak to walk or stand. Over the past four years, she has been remarkably “with it” at times, but dementia has crept in and sometimes made conversations with her confusingly funny. Anyway, the other day she was reciting family member names and birthdays over and over. When she got to my Dad, she remembered that I just moved him from his home to an AL here so that they could see each other more often. She asked what the place was called again. I said assisted living. She happily said: Oh that’s right, “existence living” !!! That about sums it up I think!
Her Alzheimer's was getting worse, one day I grabbed her right before she was about to fall. She looked at me and said ," you are such a bread basket".
I think she ment lifesaver
The almost 2 year old that I babysit for insists on walking down the stairs ( holding my hand ) , even though she’s still a bit short . She also tries to go too fast .
So I was saying “ Careful “, a number of times .
And she was repeating me but it came out clear as a bell . “ Can’t fall , Can’t fall , Can’t fall “ , with each step she took .
I was thinking she’s going back to the women’s lib movement in her brain . She was a teen and young woman during that time . Late 1960’s and 1970’s .
That’s why she complains the men get more food . She’s looking for equal rights . She says other things as well . She says women get the short end of the stick .
I remember my Mom flipping out when sis left the house on a date in a halter top and no bra . Lol
The other day she asked me the zip code where we grew up . She remembered the address of the house but not the zip code . I think she’s thinking about the 60’s and 70’s .
My sister was placed in long term care last week .
She keeps texting me that she’s “ going to start a revolution because they give the men bigger meal portions “ . I seriously doubt that . She has frequent delusions . So I told her to just ask for more if she’s still hungry .
Last night she texted me that at dinner she started her “ revolution “ and told them she wants a man’s food portion and that the other women in the dining room started to say it too . ( Mind you my sister imagines people saying things, and processes what she hears inaccurately frequently .)
My nephew ( her son ) said he’s tired of hearing she’s going to start a revolution for every little thing , even though it was a bit funny when she first started to say it when she was in the hospital and then rehab .
It reminds me of when my son was a little boy and was trying to sing a church hymn at his bedtime routine entitled "He is Exhaulted" but it came out as "He is Exhausted".
