I choose A Place At Home - Orange Park because I was assured that the caregivers were trained and experienced. They told me they were sending out the best caregiver they had. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. The girl was nice enough but super quiet. When I left my husband was having his coffee and a cup of yogurt. She was sitting next to him in our double recliner. When I came back 1 1/2 hours later, his empty cup and yogurt cup were still sitting on my husbands tray and she was still sitting in the same spot. I had told her at the interview that I would want her to do light house keeping. Anyway, I proceeded to load dishes in the dishwasher and take the trash out. Not once did she offer to help. Not even to hold the door for me when I went out with 3 big bags of garbage. I thought Respite care was to help me not watch me work. She was doing something on her phone most of the time. I will not be using them again.

A Place At Home, wonderful organization so far. They start in my parents home this coming week. The reason I decided on them are for a few reasons. First they were responsive, very courteous and extremely kind and caring about my situation. They work with veterans and have people on staff with certifications to assist my mother with advanced dementia and my step father who has just come home from open heart surgery. They have several self pay options and are extremely flexible with scheduling. They have a minimum per day but not a minimum per week, which is beneficial for my family situation. I am excited to see how things go, for parents and they made my parents feel comfortable with strangers coming into the home, which can be very difficult to do with a dementia patient.

We are 4 days into home care and my Aunt is happier than she has been in the six months since her son passed. The neighbors who were caring for her were at the end of their patience and everyone is much happier and less stressed now. The caregivers are incredibly nice, attentive, and patient. I can't express how much happier she is now with regular, daily care from people who are not stressed about helping her.
