Senior Helpers - Smithtown, NY

In-Home Care Overview: Senior Helpers - Smithtown, NY

Our goal is to provide an environment of safety oversight and assistance as needed, which allows our seniors to continue their independence with daily tasks and activities for as long as they are able.

Our caregivers can keep your loved one engaged by bringing games and activities such as checkers, coloring and word search books, cd player with oldies music, seeds for planting in small pot, nail polish, and beads to make bracelets.

In addition to companionship and activities, our caregivers also assist with meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, medicine reminders, exercises and mobility and other household chores. We also provide transportation to doctor appointments, haircuts, food shopping or to go visiting family or a friend.

We offer a free Life Profile Assessment that can gauge if your loved one is at any risk of going to the hospital in the next 6 months due to medication management, falls, and trips out of the home and nutrition. This assessment is based on twenty years of research with the Mayo clinic and Harvard University exclusively for Senior Helpers. We can come to meet you and your family for about 45 minutes to answer any questions you may have. This also helps us choose the most appropriate caregiver that you and your family will be comfortable with.

We also offer a Wellness Monitoring System that we can place in the home, no cameras or audio, just sensors that can be monitored from a mobile phone. This system informs both us and the families if an entry door was opened, the refrigerator door was opened, the temperature in the house, the room that the client is in, sleep patterns and the amount of bathroom visits. This system has helped with identifying a possible urinary tract infection before it got serious. It also helps us to know if someone has wandered or hasn’t moved in several hours detecting a possible fall.

We do not use registries to acquire caregivers; our caregivers are employees of our company, and they are bonded and insured. A thorough criminal background and department of motor vehicle check is completed for each caregiver. ALL OF OUR CAREGIVERS DRIVE and have their own vehicle. All of our caregivers are trained to assist our clients who have Dementia using the Senior Gems program developed exclusively for Senor Helpers by the nationally renowned Teepa Snow. Our caregivers continually participate in continued education regarding the Gems Program.

Our minimum hours of service is twelve hours per week, starting as little as 2 hours per shift. We are non-contractual so service may be discontinued at any time. We do also have our Flex Home Program that starts with as little as 4 hours weekly.

Medicare now covers 75 hours of respite care per year with Senior Helpers! Give us a call, we would be happy to talk about the new Medicare Guide Program.
