How much money will I be getting back for claiming my elderly parents as dependents on my taxes?

I'm claiming both of my parents as dependents on my taxes this year. I only made about $8,000 for the year of 2009.

You'll likely need some kind of proof that they are financially dependent on you and be able to back up your costs. I'd get a CPA to advise you as the amount might depend on where you live.

I know it's hard to afford good tax help. You could try calling the CPA organization in your state and tell them you need help. Otherwise, you should have the IRS people help you.

One other thing, I'm not a tax person by any means so just take this as an extra reason to get help, but with that low an income, you may want to check and see if you need to file at all, and find out what to do if you don't have to file.
