Good Morning. I run a govt assisted day centre here in Australia. Clients pay $8 per day to attend.Lunch provided if we are in for the day. If we have an outing to a cafe the clients buy their own lunch.i am readin gyour comments and realize we are not oo bad off.
My husband has Alzheimer's Disease. He has just turned 70. His day program here in Massachusetts is $ 85.00/day. I have heard of some (govt. subsidized) as low as $ 40.00/day. Transportation is not provided so that could be another consideration on top of the day care cost if family cannot provide it.
Mom's costs over $100 a day, and open hours are only 9-3. I take her there for 4 hours day, 3 days a week. This is a very high quality facility, put together with the fundraising savvy of the Palo Alto area (ie, Stanford professorsville). However, when mom first attended, it was located in a shabby church in their schoolrooms. Very high staff to client base, and with those sorts of hours, nobody on staff has too much to deal with. Also, qualifications are that the person has to be transportable (assist rising, seating), has to feed self, no fecal incontinence, and not a lot of behavior issues that need individual attention. They even have busses to pick up and return clients to their homes.
sorry didn't answer the cost question. every area is different. national average is about $65/day. very competitive with home care and being with others offers socialization and may reduce depression.
Adult Day Care differs from Senior Centers. Medical Adult Day Care typically offers skilled nursing, meals overseen by a dietician, therapeutic activities, and transporation. Some even provide escorts to medical appointments. ADC's are licensed facilities. Most are open 5 days with some open up to 7 days per week. these centers are often seen as a cost effective alternative to in home care, assisted livings or nursing homes. Rhonda R
I think it depends some places charge 50 dollars-90 dollars. Our senior center was chargeing 5 dollars but it is governmemt supplemented but they do not take everyone and our lunches only cost us $2.50 and a cup of coffee .25 cents. You need to shop around if you have an office for the ageing in your county call them and also see if you would qualify for financial aide some counties help out people with lower incomes.
