My father is disabled due to his mobility, hearing loss and eyesight loss. I would like to be able to take care of him as a full time job. Is this possible?

I would get legal advice I have heard of this being possible but you need to be so careful because of the look-back period and you do not want to get in trouble later down the road and have to pay the money his money can be used for his care but it would be better for you to be a paid caregiver for someone else but you do need to go to an elder lawyer-do not call medicare they can very well give wrong advice if they do not know the answer they tend to make something up -I was down that road if it is not in writing do not believe it.

If your father is collecting official disability because of his blindness..I believe that family caregivers can be paid a stipend for caring for the person. I live in CA, but Mom did not qualify as disabled enough. Guess alzheimer's doesn't count..or she's on Medicare now...Anyway, the only thing I've even qualified for on a search program for benefits is a $40 coupon for a digital converter box for the TV set. I fall through every crack to get real help.

Over in the right hand column, scroll down and click on the common terms about being paid to be a caregiver.

If your father is a VET, he can qualify for some aid from the Vet's admin
search this site for this term
VA Financial Assistance for Caregivers
and you will find articles about it.

You might find some financial help for yourself, but often what you might find helpful is that your FATHER is qualified to get some paid care, but YOU cannot be paid. Use this money to get yourself some time off, work a parttime job, work from home, take bathing and other hard tasks off your shoulder.

Some will chime in that if your father has enough funds, he could work up a caregiver agreement with you, change terms of inheritance, etc. But it is hard going to get YOU paid even a pittance. You'll find a lot of posts on this topic, so read the other threads for guidance.
