My father is losing weight, unable to control his bladder and needs blood pressure medication. He won't go to the doctor. Do we have any right to make him?
You are in a difficult position (obviously), and you have lots of company. Unless you have guardianship over him, and to do that a doctor and court would have to declare him incompetent, you can't really make him get help.
I would suggest looking for a person he likes, outside of the family - a friend or faith community leader perhap - who could encourage him to go for a general physical. I'd stay away from mentioning specific concerns as he probably is afraid of hearing bad news. A third party often can get father than the family. There is more distance so it's easier to save face.
If it's a really bad situation and he lives alone, you can have Social Services do a welfare check. They may or may not have grounds to get him medical attention. Good luck. I really do feel for you. Carol
Let me clarify something before I go,if you do not have POA they can sue you.I F you don't help your dad, they can still sue you-this time for Neglect. This is why you are in a difficult position. This is the same position I was in. Lawyers get rich off of this difficult positions, they live to get rich off of these difficult positions.I will tell you the same as I have everyone elese,no law would ever stop me from saving my dad.
