Ask an elder attorney would be my choice. There's also the area agency in your area (Council on Aging is in my MIL's). COA is very helpful. They helped me with getting my MIL set up for Elderly day care center and respite private home health care. My DPOA SIL got the elder attorney set up. Oh, also, COA got me set up with their Caregiver's Unit (COALA, in the Cinti., OH area)--invaluable.
If you have to apply for medicaide it is a very difficult job and you will need help for the paperwork and it is best to go to an elder lawyer to assist you it is daunting to get together all the documents you need and after doing the paper work you need to meet with social service and I did not get that far before my husband died there is a look back of at least 5 yrs. so if he gave any large sums of money to anyone you will be required to have that paid back. And where you live deturmines how many hours he will get home care, You may find it is better to keep your job until you know how much care he will get.
if your dad is eligible (income-wise) for medicaid, there are a handful of home health agencies that will have you go through a training and pay you (not a lot, but every little bit helps) a certain amount of hours a week to care for your dad. If your dad is over the income limits for medicaid, like my grandmother is, you may have to live on just his income. I first you can look up medicaid (if he's not on it already) and see if he meets the income guidelines. If so, I would suggest calling around to home health agencies. Good luck!
