My mom is in a skilled nursing home recovering from serious diabetic wounds. She has Alzheimer's and some days she doesn't speak at all. How do I respond?

Talk to her anyway. Occasionally tell her that you have some soft music you brought for her to enjoy. Bring an old family photo and slowly share the story behind the photo, weaving her life into it where possible. Bring her a single rose without thorns, and ask her if you can take her photo with the rose. Ask her to smile. She may not respond to anything, but that doesn't mean that you need to be silent.
