My husband does not understand reflections in mirrors or windows - he feels people are out there and feels threatened. Why?

EXPERT Carol Bradley Bursack, CDSGF Oct 2010
Mirrors are a big problem, as people with Alzheimer's often ter so they don't recognize themselves in the mirror, just as they don't recognize a spouse or child. So, to them, the person in the mirror is a stranger. If they are paranoid, as is often the case, then they feel threatened.

I don't know if a medication adjustment would help, but you may want to inform the doctor.

Take care,
Carol

My mom went through this phase and, to be honest, it's fairly common. It may help to adjust lights or close curtains/blinds to assist with reflections in windows. We ended up taking down every mirror we could so Mom wouldn't be further upset. Warm hugs ~ patti
