I'm paying 900 to 1200 monthly caring for my mother. She cannot walk and gets ISS check. I'm unemployed, but they say she makes 2 much to get help. What can I do?
(1) Sign up for disability.gov and always click on "Caregivers" so you can stay informed about resources -- including financial assistance.
(2) You're probably doing this already, but keep an eye and ear out for ways to trim your budget. Also, keep receipts for every expense related to your mother's care so you can actually prove to Social Security and the local Dept. of the Aging that you're not trying to get over on them.
In today's American society, what you say isn't as important as what you can prove. ... My point? Paper trail baby, paper trail.
Give a hug to your mom and tell her it's coming from the Bronx (NYC). And let us know what happens. ... Inquiring minds want to know.
