Our eldest brother John, who was born deaf, recently had a stroke. John doesn't want to go into a Nursing Home, but it's our only option. How do we convince him its best for everyone?

Our Mother passed away in the year 2009, and John was living on his own, until he had the Stroke, John is also T2 Diabetic. Thx Bev

Hi CalifAdvocate, thanks for your input regarding my brother. We have located a place, so that my brother John, can join and speak with others who were born deaf. We feel that this will help John to settle in to the Nursing Home. We know it won't be easy at first, but we do have our Brothers well-being at heart.
Many thanks, Gossip3

Check out Columbus Colony in Columbus OH. It has a large community deaf retirees in independent living, assisted living and nursing care settings all in one location.

I don't know how much care your brother needs, but how about an Adult Foster Home instead of a nursing home? The one we had my father-in-law in before he died, had only one other man living there, so the care was much better. Plus we deliberately chose a home that had a dog, a little baby, and a 2 year old. Since my father-in-law loved animals and kids, it was great.
