Dementia with or without an official Alzheimer's diagnosis would be accepted at most memory care facilities. In the midwest there are very few assisted living facilities for these persons. There are a few licensed as assisted living 2, but they are very expensive and only private pay. I am sorry to say you may to looking at a more traditional nursing home. Many have "locked units" which would be appropriate for someone with behavioral problems. Call your local ombudsman program and ask for resources. Good luck.
Many asst living facilities have a 'memory care' unit which is for Alz. patients. But do you have to officially have alzheimers? I don't know. I would think those people would be much better equipped to handle difficult patients. Check it out.
