What to tell the doctor so my mom can keep her Medicare?

Mom is non-weight bearing for 8 weeks. She has come off Medicare as she could not progress with Physical Therapy. Her cognitive skills are such that she doesn't comprehend "toe touch". According to the nurse, she is an all or nothing type of person. She has two more weeks before the 8 weeks is up. My decision is whether to private pay for the next two weeks or ask the doc to let her toe touch at 6 weeks to keep her on Medicare? Can someone shed some light?

Yes Jeanne! Off Medicare just for this claim. Doc said no weight bearing for 8 weeks which will be May 25. At that time she will be able to "toe touch" hopefully. Medicare has not covered her since May 3. If your familiar with Medicare, you know about the 30 day period - so we have to get her progressing. Otherwise, she'll be there forever and broke!

I was just referring to the next two weeks because that would get us to the end of May.

If Mother is not able to make progress in the PT, does it make sense to continue with it, regardless of who is paying for it? I don't think rehab clinics want to lose customers any more than any business, so they are not likely (as I see it) to make up the claim that she is not making progress. Medicare will not pay for the next two weeks, but that is just for this claim. She is not "off Medicare" as far as future coverage is concerned, right?

What do you think the benefit of going 2 more weeks would be?
