We have acknowledged this bad behavior, and my father-in-law seems to think it is cute. We have been aware of this, the past year. We cannot seem to get him to stop. Do I have to start treating him like a child, and tell him I will not take him out to eat, if he continues this behavior. I'm not sure how to handle it.
Is this common for the elderly? He definitely has become a compulsive shopper since my mother-in-laws passing two years ago.

How do you respond to that one? She is correct, they won't do a thing to her.
