I have been my mom's caregiver for 4 years. She recently had surgery. She is home, and just NOT the same. Anyone had experience with POCD?

My husband is 75yrs old. and he does have dementia. My husband had a kidney removed 4 months ago. He was forgetful before the operation but the anesthesia really played havoc with his memory and seem to progress it immensely. This pass couple of weeks I've been noticing some improvement and he does not seem to get as agitated as before. Anesthesia will effect elders in the mind for quite a while. All one can do is wait and see what happens.

My husband has been hospitalized a few times in the 9+ years he has had dementia. None of those stays involved surgery, but each time he experienced a decline. In his case he did eventually return to his pre-hospital baseline, but it took months.

My mom had surgery ten years ago and had a bad reaction to the anesthesia and began having mini-strokes (TIA's). It took a few weeks, but she got her head back and became herself again. I hope all goes well for you too.

My friends mother had surgery and came out of it with dementia due to the
Anastasia. Was never the same. I'm not saying this is the case for your mom.
Bless the both of you. I hope she comes out if it.
