Is this normal for my mom in a "Personal Care Facility" to go to bed at 7pm?

Went to visit mom last evening at the personal care facility she's in. It's a private home converted to a PCF. She hasn't been there long. I went to see her and arrived around 7 p.m. Knocked at the door and got no answer. Went around to the side door, same thing. Then I heard someone hollering "hello", and it was the director calling to me from an upper window in her quarters. She informed me that everyone was in bed and that I could not see mom now.

Is this typical? 7 pm seems a bit early for bed to me. There are about 8 residents there. I mean if it had been 8, well, then maybe I could see.

I should add that I like the place, it's clean and the director is very nice. Mom does seem to be adjusting.

It seems early from the standpoint of limiting visiting hours. Staffing should not be limited to the director. Even if she is ill, there are still needs that must be met. I would question the fact that you can't visit your mom at such an early hour. Even if she is in bed, it doesn't mean she's asleep. Something does not seem quite right about this.

Just to follow up on this, it turns out the director was very ill that week with some sort of bad cold or flu, so went to bed early herself.

Thanks to all. Mom usually doesn't go to bed this early. I will find out if it is the usual time, and you're right, the director may get up and have to handle that. I think breakfast time is flexible; sometimes they don't eat until later in the morning. I need more information. Thanks again. Will post as I find out more.

My mother-in-law goes to bed at 7 too, but she is always tired from getting up all night to go to the bathroom. Are you sure they have to sleep, or do they just have to go to their rooms at that time. Sometimes older people get up so early that maybe the director needs to go to bed early too to have enough rest for caregiving. But it does seem early to close up for the night.

PCF's r regulated by state's facilities divisions. There r different reg's for diff types of facilities, n policy is usually explained in more detail correlated to state administrative codes. You can look this up, or ask for help from area agency on aging. Usually visiting hours restrictions r frowned upon in residential facilities. 7 sounds early to me too. Let us know what u find out?

I know old people go to bed early, but have you asked the facility if that is normal for them to put everyone down by 7pm? Are they just wanting to shut everyone up by putting them to bed, or are these people tired? I'd start there.
