My elderly father complained that he needs someone to trim the hair on his posterior, as it's "getting too long". Is there a service that can do this?
Is there a service that can do this? He said his doctor told him that he (the doctor) couldn't do it. I'm his daughter and love him very much, but can't see myself doing this (nor does he want me to).
What is bad is that certain body parts create embarrassment for people. It's all part of being human. Men have more hair than women and some even call for attention. But no one talks about it for fear they'll be the butt of jokes. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.) Your father's discomfort is probably real and I'm glad he felt comfortable enough with you to let you know.
I just want to say, I love this site! It is so helpful, especially knowing how many people are going through these difficult situations. Mine is nothing compared to some of the people stories I've read on this site, and I'm so impressed with the willingness of people to give helpful advice!
I honestly considered the waxing idea - at least I know they are used to dealing with that area of the body! I just recently talked him into getting a pedicure to take care of his toenails, since the health service used to provide it but recently stopped. I was wondering if the growth of hair "down there" was not unlike the growth on his (and most elderly) ears and nose - for some reason the growth seems to increase with old age. I just didn't want this to come off as weird, and mostly, I'd like to preserve his dignity as much as possible.
This is a real thing. Some people are hairier than others. Personally I wouldn't want to be responsible for waxing or shaving this area. I wonder if there is anyone in your area that does Brazilian waxes. I wonder if they would handle an older male and if your dad could handle waxing. It is a sensitive area.
Good question, I really don't know. This subject came up when I visited him yesterday. He shares his house with his long-time "girlfriend" (G) as my Mom's been deceased for 21 years (they decided at the outset not to get married, mostly for financial reasons - she's very wealthy). He said he asked his medical case manager if someone could trim the hair around his bottom because it was getting too long, but they said they don't do that. G said she wouldn't do it, but otherwise she takes fantastic care of him. He is fairly healthy, but his short term memory is gone - he's 91 in January. He does get confused easily, but G confirmed the situation. Not to make a joke of it, but I know pet groomers take care of that area on pets, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a similar service for humans!
