My grandfather has an constantly runny nose. Could it have been caused by his stroke?

I would think it is probably medication related. Different medications can cause this problem in some people. Talk with your Grandfather's doctor about it, maybe he can change his meds around. If not, it may be something he'll just have to live with. You may also want to research the medications yourself on the internet or talk with your pharmacist before talking with the doc. The more info you have the better.

Ever since my father had a stroke 4 years ago, his nose has run clear fluid like a faucet. It causes him to cough a lot as well because of the drainage. Hope someone can eventually give us an answer that might help.

My 91-year old Mother had some kind of event (probably a TIA) about two months ago. Afterward, her nose ran a lot for several weeks. She also had some weakness on the right side, and more difficulty speaking. As her speech and strength have improved with OT and PT, I've noticed her nose isn't running as much.

I'm glad you asked this question, because I had wondered if the runny nose was related to the TIA. Mother's situation sounds exactly like your Grandad's--clear fluid, sometimes she doesn't seem to notice it. It sounds as if the part of the brain that was affected by the stroke/TIA may control the nasal fluid.
