Caring for two people, should I put my aunt in a home?

I take care of my husband of 49 yrs, he is paralyzed on left side due to a massive stroke. I also take care of my 86 yr old Aunt. She is paranoid about the people upstairs. Its starting to drive me crazy along with her. I have no patience with either. She sits and watches me all the time. I think I am going to lose it sometimes. Should I look at putting her in a home? I am all she has. Frustrated

You might get along with her better if you could visit her as a loving niece and not have to deal with her 24/7.

But there may be some other options to try first. Adult day health centers can be a huge benefit both to the elder and to the caregiver. Many programs pick up the elder, provide breakfast, lunch, and deliver her back home. This can be from 1 to 5 days a week, and for a few or many hours.

What is your aunt's financial situation? What kind of care can she afford?

What are her impairments? Could she do some things to help you out? Perhaps being more active and useful would take her mind off her paranoia and off of watching you!
