My 87 year old mom was in the hospital. Now that she is home she is tired and dozes off, should I be concerned?

My 87 year old mom was in the hospital for 1 week & then rehab, total 6 weeks. Now that she is home which is only 4 days, she is very tired & keeps dozing off on her chair. Does anyone else have these issues?? Do you think there is a concern, she's never did this before going into hospital. Thanks for sharing.

She may be just getting used to being home again. However, if she seems to be declining, you should contact her doctor and see if he or she thinks there's a reason for your mom to be seen by a clinician. There could be an infection or something else wrong.
If your mom doesn't feel as though she's making progress with her health recovery, she might feel depressed. This may be temporary, but if it's ongoing, a doctor may want to prescribe medication.
The bottom line is whether or not you think she's just adjusting or if she may be ill. Checking in with her doctor might be wise.
Take care,
Carol

Certainly talk to your mom's physician about this, but consider what medications she is on (which is often adjusted, added, or subtracted in some way), and make sure drowsiness is not one of the side effects. There are a number of medications that can do that. There are other potential causes of drowsiness besides medication side effects, but that would be one of the first things to consider.

Anyone who has EVER spent even a few days in a hospital, know that while you're there, you DON'T sleep. With all the activity in and out of your room, and in the hall right out in front your room, there is no sleeping. I'd be inclined for the 'wait and see' approach, before worrying too much. She could very well be exhausted and just needs to catch up on her sleep.

Does she fall asleep while you are talking to her?
