How long does my mother in law have to live with small cell lung cancer?
She was diagnosed in August 2012 has had chemo and brain radiation and now stopped eating and drinking for a week and starts hospice tomorrow with a morphine pump.
My dad had small cell lung cancer. He went into hospice on a Friday and passed away on the following Tuesday. About a week before he knew his time was coming to an end :(
I doubt that anyone can tell you. The hospice staff may be able to share their observations.
In general, when a doctor approves hospice it generally means life expectancy is 6 months or less. But some people remain on hospice for a year or more, and some people live less than 6 months.
I wish you comfort on this difficult part of the journey.
