My 84 year old mom awakes thinking something is attacking her face and has caused damage many times. Any advice?
This only happens when she is sleeping and she is very afraid to go to sleep now.

She needs to see a doctor. She could be having intense dreams from a medication, or night itching or any number of things. It's understandable that she is afraid to go to sleep. I think medical help is needed as soon as possible.
