My mother needs to regain independence in order to move from assisted living. One hurdle is being able to dress herself unassisted. I'm looking for a resource for dressing aids and tips on becoming more independent.
Donna, it depends on if your Mom is having cognitive troubles dressing herself or physical issues. Buck and Buck catalog provides really nice clothing to help people stay independent in dressing (plus other clothes for serious dementia). Big buttons, loose smock tops, elastic waist pants, slip on shoes, etc. I have ordered my Mom stuff from there and she wears it. If she's in assisted living, they have the capacity to summon an OT to come evaluate and treat Mom for you and get her independent. That's a key function of OTs. Plus spot other possible problem issues and address those issues, too. Good luck.
I have to second the recommendation to have a consult with an OT. They will take a look at your Mom's deficits, figure out what tools will work the best and teach her how to use them. What are her specific issues?
just saw this and you may like this new concept in dressing it is the "Miracle Dressing Aid" a link to youtube tells about it by sheri d bean co youtube/watch?v=pb9OvtBD0O0
Any number of tools and techniques are available - would depend on your mother's physical and cognitive abilities. I would recommend consulting an occupational therapist. If her AL facility doesn't already employ one they should be able to help you find one.
