My mom was up every hour with her prognosis of progressive dementia. They prescribed lorazepam and trazedone for her at night. Course..that never stopped her. In her mind she had slept and she thought it was time to get up. There is a disconnect in the sensories of the brain. Does he have any type of dementia? I see that you say he has congestive heart. When there is a lack of blood floor there is a type of vascular dementia that can happen. I would have him checked out...there has to be something they can do. I hope you can find a solution..Praying for you. Keep in touch...this forum is very insightful and you can learn a lot from each and everyone of these caregivers. God Bless

Could your dad be in pain that's keeping him awake? With CHF he could have problems breathing at night. Maybe try a little oxygen at night. Hospice can get this for you. Does your dad have a hospital bed? Another way to help him breath better is to raise the head of the bed about 30* if he has a hospital bed. Then there's always the tried and true: Benedryl. But make sure it's not contraindicated with his other meds.
Is this insomnia something new I wonder?
