Dad is coming home to live with me again. He has had 3 strokes. When he was admitted to the NH he could do quite a lot for himself. He was admitted because his behavior was very unstable but he has the correct meds to help with this so he can come home. Now he can barely walk, his good arm has gotten weak from non-use and he can barely talk. he is in bed almost every time I visit him.He is sick almost everyday with vomiting & diarriah. He has a UTI that they can never get rid of. He was healthier at home. Also, my sister has just been diagnosed with cancer and I want to get dad up and on his feet again before we take a trip in my van from Florida to New Hampshire to be with her. I intend to spread the trip over 4 days instead of my usual 2 so that dad is not worn out from so much traveling. I'd like to know if dad leaves the nh on the last day of the month how long can the nh keep his SS check that would be coming to him after he is discharged. They do have 1 months check in their account that they received when he was on the rehab side of the nh. I believe they have that in case there are any cost incurred that medicare/medicaid did not pay while he was there. I went thru this with another nursing home and they lied to us constantly for 8 wks and said they did not recieve his check when SS said that they did. I finally emailed the company that owned the nh and told them that I was alerting the local news channels and medicare/medicaid to find out just why they were not turning his check over to him. They overnited his 2 checks the next day. I don't want to go thru this again. Any suggestions on how to handle the business office this time? I do not have access to dads SS account & he can barely talk to give them the ok to have his Direct deposit put into his account instead of the nursing home.
