Some times he can eat with no problem but it is becoming more frequent when he eats he needs to burp and holds his chest. Often he will throw up and then he is ok. I am not sure if he is not able to swallow or is swallowing wrong and the food won't stay down. This doesn't match the description of GERD or hernia. He has advanced dementia and Parkinson's disease and can't tell me what he is feeling.

I would guess xray first, and on
To more fancy, such as scope, barium
Swallow or ultrasound.
Could be constriction, they go
Down with tube with ballon, and at
Constriction, inflate.
Hope it is something simple. Good luck !
