Mom with dementia needs "chill" pill. Is there a medication to help her settle down a bit?

For the past few weeks, my mom, who has been mostly what I have described as a "happy drunk" since dementia set in, has reverted back to edgy, angry, insensitive...Anyone have any experience with any type of medication (xanax???) to help her settle down a bit?

Yes - my mother became anxious with her Dementia. The doctor prescribed Xanax and another kind of medication. It helped tremendously. So I suggest you take your mom to the doctor and explain to him/her what's going on. Another thing to think about since you will have to go to the doctor for some "chill" pills anyway - have her checked for a urinary tract infection. Elderly, especially women, get them and don't usually have the normal symptoms and don't know they have it. So while you're there, I suggest you have her checked for that too. Because a UTI can also cause behavioral changes too. Good luck!!
