Why people not respect and care their elders especially if his/her elder retire from their job?

My self Eric and I am a working for NGO who works for elder care during this job I realize how people selfish,they treat and behave very badly with their elders But thanks for the NGO's like "sandiego care givers" many more works greatly and they care,provide home and food. And try for elders to make smile.
