My Mom so overly concerned about bowel moments. Why?

Takes senocot, prunes, then goes too much and takes Immodim. Refuses to drinkl lots of fluids and/or fiber cereal. Stays in bed 24 hr. after diarrhea. c/o bloating when not going..what do I do? And why this obsession? She eats very little, 1/2 pork chop dinner, 40z boost lunch Is 85, alert. Has PD. Her Mom was bowel obsessed, too, but I never saw my Mom like this until recently. Refuses to see or call friends, then c/o no cares about me. Is on antidepressant, but still stays in bed too much!!What happened to my independent Mom who drove till she was 80??

How about having her try Metamucil in the AM and a stool softener in the PM. My Mom had the same problems (is 89), and she was also drinking prune juice with the stool softener (a taste she hated), but it seemed to work. So have your Mom give it a try!

Also bathroom issues are typical in elderly -- maybe it's one of the last things they have any control over ((just like it was one of the earlier things they learned to contol as a child???))

Probably some deep-seated issues from childhood and potty training, esp. if HER mom was also obsessed.
