My mom would have qualified but remarried a non veteran, who died this year, but unlike Social Security, she can't get benefits from my dads service because she married again. I've tried twice to sign her up. Last year I went to a seminar and the lawyers who do this for seniors seemed to be saying it didn't matter, but then after I got her into assisted living, which you have to do FIRST and then wait for 6-8 months for payments to start, I contacted the VA and they said she isn't eligible. What a disappointment! She cannot afford a really nice place to live because of this. Best of luck to you.
