Anyone have experience with loco parents? That's when someone raises you as their own without legal adoption.

my aunt has been put in a transition facility where they will decide if she goes to a full time nursing facility. they say I have no rights to make any decisions for her because i was never legally adopted by her and my uncle however under rules of fmla i do qualify per in loco parentis.
