Is it the case that mom was/is in rehab after a hospitalization? If so, then she is probably there with MediCARE paying for her stay. Depending on which Medicare drug plan she is on (this would be the "D" part), there may be a donut hole in her spending OR a specific formulary of drugs allowed on her plan. She can be billed for those items that fall outside of the plan or program limits. Speak with the billing office. Also realize Medicare doesn't pay for everything, there will be co-pays - you especially see this for ambulance services - so be on the lookout for other bills that are outside the room & board costs of the facility (which Medicare pays)
