They want to do rehab only. The SNF stopped taking "new customers" Under Medicaid 2 years ago. There r 10 residents left under Medicaid all the rest of the people are patients where their insurance is paying more so the nursing home wants us out so they can paint recarpet the rooms after they kick our mom out and strictly do rehab it pays more. I bet the facility is under the gun time wise to get the rest of the facility totally redone or retrofitted to be state & federally approved as "rehab facility" and need all the LTC residents out. It's not personal that it's Medicaid, it's that the facility is no longer providing "custodial" care (which LTC is) with the staffing needed for custodial care. Although most rehab is private paid insurance or Medicare, I wouldn't be surprised if they are taking Medicaid for those who are on Medicaid but truly need rehab…..look about to see if there are younger residents there for rehab from bad trauma (car accidents, gunshot recovery, brain surgery), if so some of those may be on regular Medicaid (as they are low income). A true rehab facility will be quite different than a NH in what equipment is there and how staffing is done. It is geared to short term intensive stays and much more expensive for more intense services. Medicare now pays for 20 days of rehab from a hospitalization, most insurance routinely pay for 30 days; and then for the patient gets reviewed for further stay. Once they get better they move out, go home; or if they don't then they transfer to a NH for LTC (custodial care). For your mom (like my mom in a NH), they don't need true rehab services, they need custodial care so they can't be at a rehab facility.
Now the social worker at the facility should be able to provide assistance in placement for your mom and the 9 others that need to find a new LTC NH. I would start by speaking with social worker. Good luck.
