A few months ago my dad was discharged from a nursing home to my care. He was in bad shape heavily medicated almost near death. Once home I removed all his meds and slowly witnessed the old dad come back! 3 mos he was with me but time came where I had to return to work. I got him into another nursing home which is much nicer. He's only been there a few days not enough time to acclimate to the new surrounding. He has dementia and has his moments of outburst. They want to transfer him back to the old facility because they have a behavavioral unit. My fear is that after I brought back to good health they'll over medicate him! A nurse at that facility said to me "it's best to seen & not heard" I was shocked. I'm very upset about the whole situation, can someone help me as to what can be done or where to turn to?

Nursing homes vary widely across the country and even within communities. Maybe, if this better nursing home where he lives now insists on moving him, they will wait until you can get him into a better one than the original. Good luck, my friend.
