My Mom is 95 and has paranoia but no memory loss. Is this dementia or schizophrenia?

My mother had a bout of schizophrenia in her mid 40's after my father died and left her a widow with 5 young children to raise. She has been fine until the last year when she began to have paranoia and now exhibits suspicion on a daily basis, saying my sister's family is wiring her bed to shock her, and plotting against her. Is this dementia when she has such a good memory?

Have her evaluated by her primary doctor to see if she has a urinary tract infection (UTI) or other infection going on. Infections often affect the elderly this way. Sounds like this has been going on a little while so an evaluation is in order to know how best to treat her. She was diagnosed 55 years ago..... so much has changed in evaluation since then.

I would take her to her Dr and tell him her symptoms. It does sound like some forms of dementia. He'll be able to prescribe something to calm her.. It must be very frightening for her and your family.. Hugs
