What is a good way to clear a wooden ramp of ice in winter months?

The streets may be clear and driveable but I need to get my mom out of the house. The ramp has been frozen with 1", 3", to 5" inches this winter. Then there is the shoveling... I am late 60's with arthritis and this has been very difficult for me the year. Come on spring!
