My mother-in-law recently passed away and father-in-law lives in an apartment alone. Father-in-law and all of his children live in Florida within two hours. He ha no savings, no long term care insurance, no assets, no life insurance. I'm concerned what will happen if he can no longer live alone? Can the state make the children take care of him? My husband and I are the only ones of the whole bunch who even own a home - I am afraid we would be "nominated" to take him in, even though our home is not very big and we both work tons of hours. I've seen too many instances where things have gone really bad upon taking in a parent. I will do anything not to go that route....I'm afraid I'll get stuck!

Sounds like he has a bunch of kids, if you do get pulled into this, insist everyone contributes something - money or time.
