Funeral plans for a parent whom is a medicaid nursing home resident. Will they think this is an asset even if I'm the purchaser?

My mom is a medicaid recipient in a Nursing Home in NJ. I had her funeral arrangements coordinated. However, I am the purchaser of this funeral plan as my mom has no assets /resources to get one. I will have to give the NH social services department a copy of the the funeral contract so they know what to do if my mom passes and i cannot be contacted. Will the NH social workers think this was a medicaid asset/resource of my mom's even if I'm the purchaser? Or do they just need the info in case my mom passes?

Additionally, a copy of this funeral contract was provided to the medicaid caseworker in the medicaid recertificaton paperwork.

In Pittsburgh they also wanted it to be committed for burial funds/not usable for anything else, or else if Mom and Dad owned it it could have been counted as an asset. You shouldn't have a problem since you bought it yourself instead in any event.

No worries. Even if she owned the asset, it is allowable under Medicaid rules.

No, it is not her asset. I own my sister's life insurance policy, I am also beneficiary. It does not affect her Medicaid, it is not on her annual report.

The nursing home asked me about it for my mom. Medicaid department wanted to know if it can be irrevocable. Just so it won't be cashed out before the time comes. That always made me wonder also. keep me posted.
