Do my parents have to be handicap or anything before I can be a caregiver?
I'm the one who makes sure everything is taking care of. My parents live with me and I take care of them. I make sure they get to there doctor appointments and get there meds and do whatever needs to be done for them.
There is no stamp that goes on your forehead that says "caregiver" that is given out by your local government so, if you're taking care of them, go ahead and just call yourself "caregiver."
If the doctor has said they cannot live alone and they need help with activities of daily living (ADL's) and you are keeping them out of a nursing home, you may qualify for aid. Check your county office of the aging.
It sounds like you are doing what needs to be done. Why do you want to know if this is "caregiving"? That is, are you seeking to fit into a certain program, or what?
