Anyone care to share the expense regarding taking care of an elderly parent in a home. What would it cost to have someone live with the parent full time. I was told, that on top of room and board, that it is up to 40 dollars an hour for a 40 hour work week.

The main benefit is for the elder to remain in their own homes if they really do not want to join a facility ( be it a nursing home or an assisted living facility).
I provided a room for the aide, food etc. They became part of the family. They need to be relieved for time off. Generally a substitute aide is provided by the agency if the family isn't covering the time off.
Again it can be a good alternative but a family member needs to monitor the care and continue with the medical appointments etc that the elder needs.
