How much would it cost, for a health aide to live with a senior at their home full time?

Ohio it starts at companion/nurses aides $16 an hour 10 hrs a day and the price goes up per skill. You must provide room and board and one 24hr day a week off. I called 4 agencies and they all advised not to get someone from the newspapers as they check background and provide the medical insurance for their workers along with "fill in's". Sounded great just the yearly cost seems to me would drain the elderly ones bank account unless they are on Medicaid.

You can investigate it but normally it costs less than nursing home monthly charges if the patient is self pay. I was paying $180 a day for a live in aide in 2011-2012. Some agencies are slightly less and their are private individuals who work for a bit less but not much.
The main benefit is for the elder to remain in their own homes if they really do not want to join a facility ( be it a nursing home or an assisted living facility).
I provided a room for the aide, food etc. They became part of the family. They need to be relieved for time off. Generally a substitute aide is provided by the agency if the family isn't covering the time off.
Again it can be a good alternative but a family member needs to monitor the care and continue with the medical appointments etc that the elder needs.

I had live in care for my loved one back in 2011. It was about $5100/month plus food. This was through an agency and in the NE. You might call a few agencies and ask for their rates. Expect to answer questions about the level of care and issues for the person being cared for.
