My father in law broke four vertebra in his lower back he is 89 mom in law is 91 he basically takes care of her, after two weeks in rehab they told him he can go home! He is no better today than two weeks ago! Great amount of pain, and gets sick from the pain meds! I know Medicare has changed many rules but he does have a secondary insurance! Does anyone know anything that can be done to keep him there longer? If so what and how do I do?

You can explain to the rehab that your FIL has to be in better shape so he can care for his wife but it's been my experience that facilities do what they want to do. They might send in a social worker to help your FIL figure out what to do about your MIL.
After broken vertebra he's liable to have pain and suffering for the rest of his life. Was it a compression fracture? It might be time to get some in-home help for your in-laws. Your FIL may not be able to care for his wife the way he used to.
