In the State of Penna. if the parent is in a nursing home..and will exhaust her funds by end of 2014..can the parent purchase an airline ticket (before her funds run out) for the daughter to fly to the coast to visit and check on the parent.. without violating any Penna Medicaid look-back rules.

Every state manages their Medicaid program uniquely. For my mom in TX, she had to supply 3 years & 6 months of all financials. What the caseworker is looking for is, imho, a "pattern of spending". My mom was in IL and still had her home, so what she wrote checks for was fixed and pretty well the same things month in month out. For you, payment for airline ticket will stand out and be a red-flag for Medicaid review. I wouldn't do it as you don't want to do anything that flags the application for a more intensive review if you can help it.
