How do I handle Mom's mail and bills now that she is Independent Living?

Mom is in an IL community 3 hours away from me now. I am overseeing her finances. I'm worried about not knowing what's going on with her insurance bills, her Soc Security (if it has changes), her Medicare. Won't Soc Sec and Medicare need to have her resident address on file? How do I get them to send the mail to me?

No, can't rely on Mom to send me bills as they come to her. I don't think. Unless I send her a big manilla envelope already stamped?

Any suggestions?

We have all of mom's mail sent to my sister in law, who does her financials; her husband, my brother is poa. I think initially we simply had stuff forwarded via usps. We renew that every six months. We made sure no bills went to her il facility.

Also, it's helpful to put bills on automatic payment.

I think the easiest way to monitor someone's finances (with their permission!) is to have online access to their account, and to pay bills out of that. Most large companies will bill you electronically so there is no paper to receive in the mail.

I did an address change for my dad so his stuff was sent right to me. I didn't want to chance things getting misplaced if he received his own mail and I didn't want him to stress and obsess over his mail either.

Make your address her legal address and do all of the above. Most services, will let you change an address on-line. Don't forget her voter's registration. We can vote by mail, here in AZ.

We put in a change of address, so all the mail comes to our home. One by one we notified the senders of the new billing address. We also got some return address labels printed for her with her new address so when she sends out a card, people know where she is.
